Description:

GEORGI K. ZHUKOV (1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshall, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. Important T.Ms.S in two places, 11pp. 4to., [Moscow, ca. 1966], being typed text and reproduced war-date orders describing Zhukov's desperate defense of Moscow and its approaches. The text, apparently for an article written by Zhukov, describes the marshaling of forces to repel the assault of Panzer Gen. Heinz Guderian, the capture and murder Mikhail Guriyanov, and the destruction of Zhukov's home town of Strelovka. The copies of orders included also bear Zhukov's corrections, and deal with the destruction of roads and bridges in advance of the German attack, his conflicts with Stalin, mustering of additional men and material, and so on. All in all, dozens of corrections boldly penned, and in overall fine condition. This text undoubtedly was used in the later publication of his memoirs, The Memoirs of Marshal G. Zhukov. $400-600
