Description:

WORLD WAR I NAVAL INTELLIGENCE REVELATIONS Fascinating and revealing compilation of security leaks, labeled as "anecdotes ", prepared by aide Hollis H. Hunnewell and presented to Lt. Cmdr. Spencer Eddy, the officer in charge of the Naval Intelligence Branch in New York, ca. 1920, presented in typed form in a bound, small 60pp. folio book. Apparently, it was Eddy himself who prepared the texts, broken down into pre and post-war revelations. Incredible content - in the very first chapter Eddy reveals the names of the entire staff of the New York branch, the various departments and department heads and every agent and staffer, including members of departments, i.e.: Espionage, Latin America, Banking, Cables, Russian and Czechoslovak, etc. There follows dozens of "anecdotes ", some very revealing, including the set-up and execution of "stings", the sale of documents, arrests of suspected spies, "tailing" of suspects, bribery, and so on. While the stories are written in a humorous vein, much of how the agents operated and their surveillance techniques comes out. Revelations such as these, were they to be released by agents today, would soon lead to a lengthy prison stay, at the very least. Covers detached, else very good. $400-600
