(1882 - 1946) German field marshal and army chief of staff under Adolph Hitler, convicted of war crimes and executed at Nuremburg. Fine printed D.S. 1p. 4to., Berlin, [n.d. but ca. 1940], a broadside to all Gauleiters from Keitel as the Chief of the High Command of the Armed Forces, in part: '...In agreement with the deputy to the Fuhrer[Rudolf Hess] I invite you to an inspirational trip to the combat areas of Belgium and France. The trip...will be under the direction of the Chief of the General Armed Forces Office, Lt. General Reineke, and begin on Sept. 30, 1940 in Cologne and end the evening of October 6, 1940 in Saarbrueck...The travel will be through Maastricht, Luettich, Brussels, Gent, to the channel coast...Somme to Compiegne, Paris, Reims, through part of the Maginot line over Verdun to Metz...I ask that you let me know soon...".
