Description:

ADOLF HITLER'S BERGOF CHEST KEY
A rare relic from Adolf Hitler's Berghof, the mountain retreat at Berchtesgaden, an ornate 3" brass and steel key used to lock a chest, likely in Hitler's personal quarters. At the time of its "liberation", the key was slipped into a torn slit in a correspondence card of RUDOLF SCHMUNDT as "Chefadjutant der Wehrmacht Beim Fuhrer". The card bears printing in a period hand: "Chest Key in Main Salon at Berchtesgarden donated on 6 May 1945 to Col. Jacoby". A printed note, possibly from a museum display, also accompanies the key: "...Key taken May 6, 1945 from a chest at Hitler's BERGHOF, Berchtesgaden, and given to Col. Leslie E. Jacoby, commanding officer of the 5th U.S. Tank destroyer Group...". Very good.
