Good lot of five items signed by notable Union generals, includes: BYRON R. PIERCE (1829 – 1924), Union brigadier general who participated in every major battle in the east from First Bull Run to Appomattox, wounded in action at Gettysburg. Bold signature in black ink on a 4.5 x 2 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Brig & Bvt Maj Genl U S V' and the date ‘Aug 10 1915'. Shows a pencil identifying inscription and archival tape residue on the verso, else very good. WITH: MORGAN L. SMITH (1822-1874), Union brigadier general, distinguished himself at Shiloh, severely wounded at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou. Signature in black ink on a 3.75 x 1 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Brig. Gen Vol'. Tabbed to a slightly larger backing, shows faint stains, else very good. WITH: JOHN J. PECK (1821-1878), U.S. Army officer who served in the Mexican American War under Zachary Taylor, and a Union general during the Civil War. Signature in black ink on a 1.75 x 4 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Maj Genl'. Shows faint folds, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM A. PILE (1829-1889), Union brigadier general of Black troops during the campaign against Mobile. Signature in black ink on an irregular 2.5 x 1 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl'. Shows archival tape residue to the verso, else very good. WITH: THOMAS G. PITCHER (1824–1895), Career soldier of the American Army who served in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. By the end of the Civil War he held the rank of brigadier general in the Union Army, later serving as superintendent of the United States Military Academy. Signature ‘T. G. Pitcher' in black ink on a 5.75 x 3.75 in. slip of paper, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl'. Inlaid into a 5.75 x 3.75 sheet, very good. SOLD WITH: JAMES OAKES (1826-1910), Cavalry colonel and brevet brigadier general, declined appointment to brigadier general of volunteers in 1861. Signature in black ink on a 5 x 1.75 in. slip of paper, adding his ranks ‘Col. & Bt. Brig. Genl. U. S. A. Retired' and the date ‘Nov. 2, 1882.' Tabbed to another piece of paper at the left edge, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. Six pieces.
