Good lot of four items signed by Union generals of the Civil War, includes: WILLIAM B. HAZEN (1830-1887) Union major general who led an important charge at Shiloh, fought at Chickamauga and at Missionary Ridge where his men were the first to reach the summit. A.L.S. "W.B. Hazen", 1p. 8vo., Washington, D.C., May 23, 1885, a rather illegible missive mentioning a work on the battle of Chattanooga and "...crowning the Ridge..." He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds with slight toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: JOHN W. GEARY, (1819-1873) Union brigadier general who commanded a division at Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Lookout Mountain and in Sherman's March to the Sea. Later Military Governor of Savannah. E.S. in black ink on an 8vo. sheet as "Brig. Gen. Com'dg" of the 2nd Division, 12th Corps, dated June 23, 1863. The same sheet also bears the E.S. of Brevet Brig. General CHARLES CANDY (1832-1910) in black ink, dared June 22. Shows a chip to the left edge and ragged at the right, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM H. MORRIS (1827-1900) Union brigadier general on Peck's staff, in reserve at Gettysburg and engaged at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania, where he was wounded. A.L.S. "Wm. H. Morris", 2pp. 8vo., Albany, Oct. 4, 1862, to Adjutant General of New York Thomas Hillhouse. Morris, reminds his correspondent of the dates of his commission, and asks that it be mailed to his father's address in Putnam County. He signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank at the time: "Col. 6th N.Y.S. Arty."Shows original mailing folds, else very good. WITH: ETHAN A. HITCHCOCK (1798-1870) Union Major general who served as Commissioner for the Exchange of War Prisoners and Commissary General of Prisoners. Printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Dec. 22, 1862, a circular soliciting ideas and suggestions to be sent to a board assembled by the Secretary of War to "...Propose amendments and changes to the Rules and Articles of War..." Hitchcock signs at the conclusion in black ink as "Senior Officer" of this board. Shows original folds and slight foxing to the verso, else very good. Four pieces.
