(1745 - 1829) American politician and Adjutant General of the Continental Army, Secretary of War (1795) and Secretary of State (1795-1800). A.D.S. "Attest. Timothy Pickering / President" 1p., oblong 8vo.[n.p.], Feb. 6, 1826, in full: "At a Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Essex Agricultural Society, at the Hotel in Topsfield, Feb. 6, 1826 - Voted, a compensation of Fifty dollars to John W. Proctor for his services as Secretary of the Society for the year past". Bears Proctor's signed receipt below Pickering's signature. Toning and fold wear, otherwise in very good, with a vintage engraved portrait.
