World War I-era service dress visor cap of khaki wool construction, featuring a stiff circular crown and wool covered bill, with a brown leather chin strap affixed over the bill. The front of the cap bears the regimental badge of the South Wales Borderers, depicting a Sphinx over a banner emblazoned "Egypt", memorializing their service against Napoleon''s forces in Egypt. The interior of the cap is lined with treated black leather, with the interior of the crown bearing the faint maker''s mark: "...Compton Sons & Webb Ltd.", with the size 6 1/2 and a "broad arrow", indicating War Department ownership. Shows scattered mothing and expected wear, else very good. The South Wales Borderers would take part in numerous notable battles in their 280-year history, including Isandlwana and Rorke''s Drift during the Zulu Wars, Gallipoli during World War I, and Tobruk, the Normandy landings, and the capture of Le Havre during World War II.
