"BALMORAL" BONNETS
Good group of six World War II and later "Balmoral"-style caps, each used by Highland regiments of the British and Commonwealth military forces. Includes: Balmoral cap of green-brown wool, with a brown "toorie" at the crown, and with the cap badge insignia of the Gordon Highlanders against a tartan flash on the left side. The interior is lined with quilted brown cloth, and is stamped "Brill Cap 1943 Winnipeg, Canada", with the size 7 1/8. Fine. WITH: Modern Balmoral cap of dark blue wool, with a red "toorie" at the crown, a black double ribbon at the rear, and bearing the cap badge insignia of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion over a cockade on the left side. The interior bears a label identifying the place of manufacture as Scotland, and size 7 1/8. Fine. WITH: Balmoral cap of green-brown wool, with a blue "toorie" at the crown, and with the cap badge insignia of the Calgary Highlanders on the left side. The interior is lined with quilted green cloth, and bears a label marked "Parktown Hat Cap, Balmoral, Khaki August, 1970", with a second label giving the size as 6 7/8. Fine. WITH: Balmoral cap of green-brown wool, with an olive "toorie" at the crown, and with the "thistle" cap badge insignia of an officer of the Scots Guards against a tartan flash on the left side. A second unidentified badge is affixed to the rear. The interior bears a plastic-encased label identifying the manufacturer as "Compton Webb (Headdress) Ltd, with the size labeled 7 1/8. Fine. WITH: Modern Balmoral cap of dark blue wool, with a red "toorie" at the crown, a black double ribbon at the rear, and a diced red, white and black border. A cockade on the left side would bear a regimental hat badge, absent in this case. The interior bears a label identifying the place of manufacture as Scotland, and size 7 1/8. Fine. WITH: Scottish infantry "tam o''shanter"-style cap, similar to the Balmoral, of khaki wool, with a green "toorie" at the crown. The interior of the cap is lined with brown cloth, and bears a fabric label identifying the manufacturer as Scott Adie Ltd., retailing in London, with the owner''s name "Floyd A Munro" in black ink. Shows some soiling, else very good. Six pieces.
