Description:

(SHIP EPHEMERA)
A nice lot of six shipping documents ca. 1830-1860s, namely receipts for transportation or the shipping of merchandise. Four bear vignettes of ships, including the steamer-tug Salem, the schooner Champlain, the Portland steam packet, and more. Along with an interesting partly-printed D.S. 1p. 4to., [England], Oct. 18, 1820, an original insurance statement for a round-trip naval voyage of the ship John Hull, to be made from "Bridlington to London". Insurable situations include: "Pirates, Rovers, Thieves, Jettisons, Letters of Mark and Counter-Mark, Surprisals, Taking at Sea..." Slight wear to left margin, possibly from disbinding, otherwise very good. An interesting grouping.
