SENDING SOLDIERS' BODY PARTS TO AN ARMY MUSEUM
Intriguing war-date A.L.S. (secretarially-signed) from Army Medical Director Dr. Jonathan Letterman, 1p. 4to., Medical Director's Office, Army of the Potomac, "Camp near Falmouth", May 18, 1863 to a surgeon attached to the 6th Corps Hospital. In part: "...it is desirable to contribute to the Museum in the Surgeon General's Office...all specimens of pathological interest which the Medical Officers of the Army may be able to obtain. These specimens...may be credited to the officer contributing it...The specimen should be numbered and have the name of the officer sending it attached to it...". Very good. Letterman constructed a long-term hospital at Gettysburg for on-site treatment of the wounded.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
