In small part: "...I spent the night there...contrary to orders & having no leave to do so. I hurried back this morning very early...was waked up by dreaming that the enemy's cavalry had cut all the R. Roads...two-thirds of the ord. officers who are Virginians are, to be deprived of their appointments...no Virginians were allowed to be examined...Pres. Davis is the chief mover in the matter...where we are allowerd a chance, we can outstrip all the other States...I wish I could apply...from some other state...there is no chance in the world of my ever getting out of the ranks. My project of getting a license to preach is the only thing left me...I would be obliged to become a Chaplain...the question of the continuance of the war will be answered by the Presidential election...". More personal content as well. A few minor stains and toning at a couple of folds, overall near fine.
