1510. DIEGO RIVERA (1886-1957) Mexican painter and the leader of the Mexican socio-political school of painting. His leftist-oriented works are based on native historical themes and grace the National Palace in Mexico City. Scarce T.L.S. "Diego Rivera", 1p., 4to., Coyoacan, Mexico, Dec. 30, 1946, in English to his agent, Nettie King in New York City, who had written the artist on December 23, 1946 [copy of her letter present] asking him if he would be interested in doing a series of line drawings for a book for Random House, which is willing to pay him $1000, and inquires about the improving health of his wife, Frida Kahlo. Rivera writes: "...Thank you very much for your kind letter...I will be ready to work on the illustrations you mentioned in your other letter as soon as you send me the material for them. I will gladly draw the illustrations for you and Random House, based on a minimum of $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars), as you mention. I am only awaiting the manuscript you have offered to send. I shall as[k] Miguel to show me the material he has. My wife appreciates your kind wishes and joins me in desiring for you a most happy New Year".
