Description:

1511. NORMAN ROCKWELL (1894 - 1978) American painter and illustrator known for his homey, American genre paintings. Rare vintage I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w ca. 1940, a three-quarter length outdoor seated pose showing the artist in profile as he sketches in a pad, inscribed: "To the best gosh darned cook in this world Irene Collins Cordially Norman 'Mums' Rockwell". Interestingly, Rockwell originally wrote "God damned", then thought better of it and artfully amended the inscription. Set in the original frame, slight mat burn else very good, unexamined out of frame. $800 - 1,200
