1511. NORMAN ROCKWELL (1894 - 1978) American painter and illustrator known for his homey, American genre paintings. Rare vintage I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w ca. 1940, a three-quarter length outdoor seated pose showing the artist in profile as he sketches in a pad, inscribed: "To the best gosh darned cook in this world Irene Collins Cordially Norman 'Mums' Rockwell". Interestingly, Rockwell originally wrote "God damned", then thought better of it and artfully amended the inscription.
