NATHANIEL LYON
(1818 - 1861) Union brigadier general who met with Confederate representatives and declared "This means war", he later put down the pro-Confederate Missouri militia and faced Ben McCulloch at Wilson's Creek where he was killed in action. Rare A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Fort Riley, Kansas, Feb. 14, 1855 to Maj. O. F. Winship in St. Louis, claiming that he had not received a general order concerning pricing allowed for soldiers' clothing and asking that the order be sent: "...in order that I may be able to correct my clothing accounts and keep them in accordance with the order..." A rare letter, in fine condition.
