Description:

MARIE DE MEDICI
(1573 - 1642) Queen of Henry IV of France after whose murder she was made regent of Louis XIII, banished from France following her attempts to persuade Louis to dismiss Richelieu against who she plotted for the balance of her life. Scarce and lengthy manuscript L.S. 6pp. folio, a letter of state dated 1615 in Old French script, not translated. Very boldly signed "Marie" on concluding page. Also signed twice by her secretary of state, PAUL PHELYPEAUX DE PONTCHARTRAIN (1569-1621) and numerous other signatories. Tipped to another sheet, wear to edges and toned in areas, very good.
