Lot 409
409. (JACK KEROUAC) DR. DANIEL DE SOLE Kerouac's psychiatrist and close friend, at one time kept Kerouac supplied with Dexedrine so that the author could continue his frenetic pace of writing. A.L.S. "de Sole", 2pp. 4to., [n.p., 1958] to Tony Sampas, nephew of Kerouac's third wife, Stella. Good content, in part: "...Been a hectic year, and things don't look like they'll be relenting...can no longer regard the world like a great stone god but must steer myself into a new kind of activity for me - alien indeed - and I find myself hurling epithets at the specter of my ineptitude...I shall slay this ghost rather than merely insult it. Have noted - but not read J. Kerouac's book 'On the Road' would like to read it. If the lack of critical reviews or the inability to write a widely salable books are portents of future success your friend is well launched and may be creating a thing which will endure..." Very good. $400-600
