Lot 410
410. STELLA KEROUAC A.L.S., 4pp. 8vo., [St. Petersburg, April, 1970] to Kerouac's psychiatrist and close friend, Dan DeSole. In part: "...Any kind word concerning Jack would be greatly appreciated. After that McClintock article in Esquire I thought that Jack's appeal would diminish...Grove Press has never been too generous with advances and royalties according to Jack's vouchers from [his agent] Sterling Lord...Jimmy Breslin called Sterling an embezzler...Memere, Jack's mother, is doing fine, but I do find it very lonesome with Jack gone...She is taking Jack's death much more philosophical[ly] than I...If what you said to Johnny was true, then Jack was actually murdered by Sterling because he wouldn't hear from him for months on end & was discouraged. I know Jack wanted to drop Sterling...Sterling held out on the contracts for reprinting of Jack's books because he claimed the money was not enough from Grove Press...Not even enough to pay hospital & funeral bills..." Two small holes in the text costing parts of three words, else very good. With transmittal envelope. $300-400
