Description:

JACK RUBY'S PRISON LETTERS TO OLD GIRLFRIEND
(1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Interesting content A.L.S., 4pp., 24mo., Dallas County Jail, a letter from Ruby to his longtime love Doris. Ruby discusses his feelings for Doris and laments his actions, in part: "...You have been the only person that I have constantly thought of outside of my immediate family... I surely realize now what a wonderful and blissful life we had both have been cheated out of. Had I only known how much you really cared for me, perhaps I too would have been more serious in our future for us... I know that I am responsible for a dreadful tragedy that has happened in the world, because I was a fool to let myself be carried away that fatal Sunday morning. Perhaps our beloved President's death had effected [sic] me more than anyone else..." Included with the lot is an A.L.S., "Doris", 4pp., 8vo., [Dallas], Nov. 22, 1965, the letter from Ruby's longtime love to which he had replied. Doris writes, "...to let you know I am still alive... and to wish Ruby well: "...I was very excited over the recent developments concerning your case... you were always good and thoughtful to me and I will always be grateful for your friendship...". Prosecutor Jim Garrison's office had tried to paint Ruby as a homosexual, which this letter possibly refutes. Minor evidence of former paperclip, else fine. Included is a letter from the woman Ruby had written, Doris, 4pp., 8vo., Dallas, November 22, 1965. Fine.
