Description:

'J'-STAMPED PASSPORT OF A GERMAN WOMAN DOCTOR
Passport issued to German woman doctor Gertrud Marwitz and bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to the 48 year-old Marwitz In Berlin on Oct. 11, 1938 and was valid for only one year. It still bears her identification photograph, and also includes her particulars on the adjoining page. Stamps within the passport show that on Nov. 17, 1938 Marwitz was granted a British visa in Berlin allowing her to land in England only while in transit to Australia. On Nov. 28th, Marwitz took a bus from Berlin to Hamburg where a stamp shows she arrived on Nov. 30th. Boarding an unknown vessel, we see she next arrived in Southampton on Dec. 2nd with permission to stay for no longer than two weeks. She then traveled to Bombay, again undoubtedly by sea, where she arrived as a 'Through Passenger' on Dec. 29th. Her voyage then takes her to Colombo (Jan. 1, 1939) and on to Fremantle, where the last entry shows she arrived on Jan. 10, 1939. Fine condition.
