Description:

'J'-STAMPED PASSPORT OF AN AUSTRIAN INDUSTRIALIST AND HIS TWIN GIRLS
Passport issued to Austrian metalware manufacturer Richard Tandler and bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to the 41-year-old Tandler and his twin 10 year-old daughters in Vienna on Sep. 28, 1938 and the document was valid for only one year. It still bears his identification photograph, and also includes his particulars and those of his daughters within. Stamps within the passport show that on Nov. 5, 1938 Tandler exchanged all of his German currency as required by law - usually done at a most disadvantageous rate. The day before he had obtained a British visa allowing him to transit on the SS DUNDAS on Nov. 11th. Tandler and family arrived at Dover at some point, and then in Quebec as a 'Non Immigrant' on Nov. 19, 1938. The latest stamp in the passport shows an arrival in Sydney on Dec. 16, 1938. Bottom of one page has been excised, cover loose, else fine.
