GETTYSBURG RELICS RECOVERED JULY, 1863
A rare set of relics recovered at devil's Den and on the field at Gettysburg the very month of the battle, July, 1863, by collector J. Howard Wert, and accompanied by his note of provenance. Included are two paper wrapped buck and ball loads for a .69 caliber musket, a knob or finial, two leather straps, one with original buckle, and a double-pronged buckle. These relics are accompanied by Wert's note which reads: " _______ Hospital on the field of the ______ Corps, Gettysburg, containing _____ used buck and ball, six musket balls, 1 shrapnel, 1 cartridge box knob, 4 unused cartridges all from various parts of Gettysburg battlefield. And six buckles from woods in back of the Devil's Den, all picked up by J. Howard Wert, July 1863". With a fuller description of Wert and his collection.
