GETTYSBURG LEATHER SHOT BAG
Remnants of a leather shot bag, about 4 1/2" long with several pieces of lead shot, recovered from the battlefield at Gettysburg within only a few years of the end of the battle. From the famous collection of J. Howard Wert, one of the "Big Six" collections of Gettysburg relics. With a fuller description of Wert and his collection. While not regular army issue, many powder bags like this one were carried by soldiers who brought them from home.
