CHINESE POLITICAL AND GOVERNMENTAL FIGURES
Good group of three signatures, all belonging to notable Chinese political figures and diplomats, includes: LI SHIZENG (1881-1973), scientist educator, anarchist, political activist, and member of the Chinese Nationalist Party in early Republican China. Signature on a cream card, 3 1/4" x 5 1/4", in Romanized characters as "Li Yuying", adding his name in Chinese characters and his personal seal in red ink. Biographical notation in pencil on the verso, else fine. WITH: LIU YULIN (1862-1942), one of the first one hundred Chinese students in the United States, later ambassador to Britain. Signature on a cut piece of paper, 3 3/4" x 5 3/4", in Romanized characters with the inscription: "Chinese Legation, London, 17th Aug. 1911", and adding a further inscription in Chinese characters. Mounting remnants and biographical notation in pencil on the verso, else very good. WITH: ZENG JINGYI, adopted son of the renowned Chinese statesman, general, and scholar ZENG GUOFAN, editor of the newspaper Changyan Bao. Signature in Chinese characters on the verso of an unrelated greeting card, 1" x 3", affixed to a 3 1/2" x 4 1/4" slip of paper. Bears a biographical notation in pencil on the verso of the larger sheet, else very good. Three pieces.
