Description:

[ Autographs ] SLAVE LIFE INSURANCE An most unusual D.S.1p.4to., Lexington, Mo., Aug. 28, 1858, a record of four slaves who have been given life insurance by their master, Cosby Price, listing each slave by name and the value of his individual insurance. The insurance agent E. Windsor of Lexington, Mo., states on his letterhead that he offers "...Lives of Slaves insured, also of parties in or going to Utah, Oregon, California, or Mexico...". This is the first document of this kind we have seen from Missouri. Very good to fine.
