[ Autographs ] SENTENCING A SLAVE TO BE HANGED D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Randolph , September, 1853, a sentence in the case of "The State vs. Jerry, a Slave", reading, in part: "...the first Friday in November 1853...he shall be taken to such place as the Sheriff or Deputy may select, and at said place ... by the said Sheriff or by his deputy, & on a gallows to be erected for that purpose, be hanged by the neck until dead ..." It is unknown what the "offense" was leading to the hanging of the unfortunate slave. Very good to fine.
