[ Autographs ] SILVER MINING CORRESPONDENCE An interesting and informative correspondence, over 20 pp. 4to., all written in Hallettsville, Texas between 1867 and 1877, in which entrepreneur and former Tennessean A.W. Hicks discusses his extensive silver mining operations in Mexico. Interesting content chronicling mining activities over a ten year period, in part: "...The original company of which I am the contracting agent...alongside of the Portrevillo Mines...another group of mines about 3 miles distant...at Santa Rosa..recent working prove to be equal to if not superior to the Portovillo Mines successfully worked by the Mexicans in their primitive way as far back as the history and tradition of the country extends...if any of your friends have mining fever I can show and demonstrate to certainty that we have the best mines in Northern Mexico...my friend Stone at Eagle Pass.. the troubles now existing in Mexico may have embarrassed his movements...This revolution is unfortunate for his prospects..." and so on. The letters largely concern recruiting of investment capitol, the profitability of the mines, grade potential ofthe ore, and the like. With original transmittal envelopes, all very good to fine.
