[ Autographs ] SHOOTOUT IN TOMBSTONE, ARIZONA A.L.S. 3pp. 4to., Schulemberg, Tx., Sep. 7, 1879, in which A.M. Hicks writes to his relative in Nashville of a shooting in Tombstone, possibly over silvermines. In part: "...Yesterday I received a letter from my son...in Tombstone, Arizona...he is blind, can only see his hand before him... His injuries have been terrible, was shot in the right angle of the lower jaw and about 1.5 inches back of the left eye, totally destroying the left and, for the present, seriously involving the right. The Doctors think the right may be finally restored...Boyce thought he could sell enough of John's mining claims to allay expensesand bring him home, but cannot. I have not been able to learn anythingabout the value of the claims...Pro. Lipton wrote me that he had essayed specimens of the ore and knew that the mines were valuable...Ihave urged Boyce [his son] not to leave until titles were perfected and properly recorded..None but my family and myself can appreciate our misfortunes...". With transmittal envelope, very good.
