French Ist Artillery - late my aide-decamp and now in the City of Mexico in command of Macgruder's [sic] Battery..." Pierce makes flattering comments on the man's suitability for a higher rank, and closes with a good political note: ..I feel confident that we shall beat the Whigs in N.H. soundly at the approaching election...
