[ Autograph ] Franklin Pierce A.L.S. penned at the conclusion of an A.L.S. 3pp. 4to. of his wife and future First Lady Jane Pierce, Concord, N.H, 1845 Mrs. Pierce writes her brother John Aiken and his wife concerning their visit together noting: "...the constant succession of circumstances and objects so pleasant did me good at the time Do not forget to have your daguerreotype likeness taken as soon as you can...' Of mutual friends she writes: "'..her sickness and death resembled our beloved Mother's the death of a son by suicide, an affectionate son and much beloved by his family - temporary derangement it is supposed was the cause...' Mrs. Pierce signs as "Jane", beneath which Franklin Pierce adds about 18 lines oftext, signed in full at the conclusion. In part: "...I have read yourletter to Jane & thank you for the trouble you have taken on her account. There are two certificates of stock [for] shares in your bank in her name My proposition is to leave it not only in her absolute control but in her name it would not be necessary in case ofmy decease for that property to pass through the forms of an Administration. It would be at once at her disposal If I return the certificate may not the Mrs. be inserted before Franklin... " Lettersof Presidents and First Ladies on the same piece are rare, and this example is in fine condition.
