Description:

ARTHUR WELLESLEY WELLINGTON
(1769 - 1852) British general and statesman, called the "Iron Duke", he crushed French forces under Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. Lot of eight A.L.S.'s, two signed in the third person, 9pp. 8vo., most from London, 1819-22, fairly routine content, introductions and minor matters save one letter from Verona, Nov. 10, 1822 that discusses a portrait, presumably his own: "...the eyes are too dark...there is something wrong about the mouth...". With one initialed envelope, very good. A great dealer's lot.
