Description:

64. ANNUAL REGISTER 1774-1783 An excellent set of eight volumes of The Annual Register, or a view of the History of Politics and Literature. (London: J. Dodlsey, 1778, 1788, 1800,1801, 1802), Includes volumes for each of the years 1774, 1775, 1777, 1778, 1779, 1780, 1781, 1782, and 1783. All volumes are 8vo., in contemporary calf spine and marbled boards. (1774, 1780, 1783, 2nd ed.; 1779, 1781, 1782 3rd. ed.; 1778, 4th ed.; 1775, 6th ed.). Each of these historic volumes contain a "Chronicle" of daily events in London (and by extension) the world, a general history of events of the year as well as notable state papers and public letters of the day. As such these volumes chronicle the end of the first British Empire, namely the American Revolution, and are of enormous interest to historians attempting to understand the struggle from the British perspective, a view often ignored in most histories of the war. These volumes also include printings of several foundation documents of the United States, including Washington's Farewell Address to his troops, the 1783 Treaty of Paris, the Franco-American Treaty of 1778 together with superb detail on the progress of the war. Boards and spines rubbed with some chipping at ends, pages overall quite clean and bindings still intact.  $800-1,000
