"ADVANCE OF THE FLAG OF THE CONFEDERACY" LETTERHEAD Incredibly rare Confederate letterhead bearing an imprint of a firing cannon alongside a Confederate national flag, with a seven-line poem that ends with the line: "advance the flag of Dixie", and imprinted at right: "C. S. Army, Columbus, KY". Written on it is a Confederate soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., in ink by Pvt. P. Pryor Perkins, Co. E, 9th Mississippi Infantry, in part: "...I know you have long since learned that I had enlisted as a soldier in the Confederate states service. I have been traveling over...Missouri & Kentucky for the last two months...our little Infant Republic will soon be recognized...then peace will be the result...a hundred thousand soldiers have crossed the Potomac again with the same view they had before...of 'wiping Virginia...from the face of the earth'. There are fifteen thousand soldiers at Paducah Ky and they daily concentrating more. We will 'wipe out' these two armies and this will end the war...we are about to have dress parade, I must stop...".
