Description:

ADOLF HITLER (1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Remarkable partly-printed D.S., 1p. large 4to., Berchtesgaden, Dec. 28, 1937. While on retreat for the Christmas holidays at his vacation home in Bavaria, Hitler orders: "...I release Professor Dr. Friedrich Brie based on #4 of the law of the university dated 21 January 1935...from his professional responsibilities..." Co-signed at bottom by BERNHARD RUST (1883–1945), Minister of Science, Education and National Culture and a zealous Nazi. FRIEDRICH BRIE (1880-1948) was a full professor of English and Rector of the University of Freiburg, and being half-Jewish, was considered a Jew under Nazi racial laws. He was arrested during Kristallnacht on November 9, 1938 and interned for several days in the Dachau concentration camp. Following the internment, Hitler signed this document expelling Dr. Brie from his position at Freiburg. During the war, Brie secretly held private anti-Nazi meetings and was supported by members of the Freiburg professorship resistance circle. He published until 1940; some of these articles are so ambiguously worded that resistant meanings can be attributed to them. After the war, he was reinstated by the French administration as the first professor of the university back to his chair and served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Folds, Hitler's signature just a tad lightened, else very good. Any signed items relating Hitler directly to actions against Jews are excessively rare!
