Description:

ODILO GLOBOCNIK (1904 – 31 May 1945) Austrian war criminal, an SS leader and associate of Adolf Eichmann. Globocnik had a leading role in Operation Reinhard, which saw the murder of over one million mostly Polish Jews at the extermination camps Majdanek, Treblinka, Sobibor and Belzec. There are indications that Globocnik may have been the originator of the extermination camp industrialized murder concept and the one who suggested it to Himmler. Partly-printed war-date D.S. as SS and Polizeiführer in District Lublin, 1p, 4to., Lublin, July 17, 1943, a list of two soldiers in his command recommended for the award of the War Merit Cross, First Class with Swords. Co-signed by FRIEDRICH-WILHELM KRUGER (1894–1945), Higher SS and Police Leader in the General Government in Poland who ordered the murders of Jews, deportation of their children, destruction of Polish historical structures, and dislocation of millions. Paper is a bit brittle with a clean 2" fold split repaired on the verso with archival tape, else very good. The nominated men are members of Police Rifle Regiment 32 and are noted for having distinguished themselves in their actions in Operations "Ostersegen" and "Wehrwolf 1 & 2". These operations were anti-guerrilla, anti-"gang" actions undertaken the previous April and June in the area of Zamosc and employed up to 16,000 police and soldiers. The German operations were an effort to put down attacks on German settlers who had dispossessed and radicalized the resident Poles. The Germans' brutal actions would would culminate in Operation "Harvest Festival", the murder of the remaining Lublin Jews on November 3 and 4, 1943, shot in the camps of Trawniki, Majdanek and Poniatowa.
