Description:

A LOCK OF CHARLES DICKENS' HAIR
CHARLES DICKENS (1812 - 1870) English novelist and the author of such classics as Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and David Copperfield. A fine relic of the author, three strands of his hair with an accompanying copy of the note of authenticity by Georgina Hogarth, his sister-in-law. Dickens married Catherine Hogarth, the daughter of the editor of the Evening Chronicle, who left him in 1858. He was very attached to Catherine's sister Georgina, who sided with him during the separation. Georgina then lived with Dickens until his death, spurring scandalous, but ultimately unfounded rumors about their relationship. The note reads in full: "I certify this Lock of Hair to be that of my Brother-in-Law Charles Dickens. Georgina Hogart". Presented with a copy of the letter and an image of Hogard and Dickens, very good condition.
