Description:

WORLD WAR I U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903
U.S. Model 1903 Bolt Action Infantry Rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1906. The U.S. Model 1903 rifle helped to introduce bolt-action rifles to large numbers of Americans during the first World War. This early production rifle is marked on the receiver/chamber as 'U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903', with serial number '166689', indicating the manufacture date of 1906. Most of the parts on this rifle are parkerized but well worn, such as barrel, receiver, and barrel bands and trigger. Some parts such as the bolt, magazine cut-off, rear sight, trigger guard, and floor plate are all blued. The barrel is stamped 'S A', with an Ordnance dept. flaming bomb, and '4-06' behind the rear sight, indicating barrel manufacture in Apr. 1906. Barrel is smooth and clean, and has a blued front blade sight. Butt plate is fitted with a trap door, in which the original oiler is present. The stock and forearm are varnished black walnut, showing the usual wear for a military rifle of this age. Underside of stock marked with impressed cartouche '50' next to a circle 'P', and another stand alone 'P' and a '53' just behind the trigger guard. Left side of stock is marked with 'DAAC'. Very good condition overall. SOLD WITH: Clip on OD green web sling with green painted hardware.. Nice early example of the Model 1903.
