WOODROW WILSON
(1856 - 1924) Twenty-eighth President of the United States who passed sweeping reform laws, gave women the right to vote, and led the United States through World War I setting the ground work for the League of Nations. Fine association T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Sept. 20, 1918, as President on White House letterhead to vaudeville actress Mabel McKinley, a niece of slain President William McKinley! In part: "...It was very thoughtful and kind of you to send me the copies of your march 'March On Americans' and I shall look forward with the greatest interest to hearing it played...". Mabel McKinley Baer (?-1937) was considered McKinley's favorite niece. In addition to performing, Mabel was a composer of numerous popular rags including "Anona". Her "March on Americans: the American Marseillaise", with lyrics by McKinley's daughter Grace McKinley, was published in 1918. Light staining, folds lightly soiled and a bit of blurring to signature, very good.
