WILLIE SUTTON WANTED POSTER
WILLIE SUTTON (1901–1980) American bank robber. During his forty-year robbery career he stole an estimated $2 million, spent more than half of his adult life in prison and escaped three times. When asked why he robbed banks, he nonchalantly responded: 'That's where the money is.' Rare, original FBI wanted poster, 10.5 in. x 16 in., Apr. 17, 1951. The poster shows six mugshot images of Sutton who is sought for: 'BANK ROBBERY - UNLAWFUL FLIGHT TO AVOID CONFINEMENT (ARMED ROBBERY)'. There follows a detailed physical description of Sutton, his fingerprint classification, and the notice that he is 'soft spoken and courteous in manner...'. The poster then warns that he is 'EXTREMELY DANGEROUS', describes his flight from Pennsylvania, and is signed by J. Edgar Hoover in type at conclusion. Set in a black period frame, fine condition. Consigned by the owner of the largest and most prestigious crime collection in the world.
