WILLIAM WHETSTONE(d. 1711) Officer of the Royal Navy who rose to the rank of rear admiral and commander-in-chief in the West Indies. Scarce D.S., 1p. sm. folio parchment, Port Royal, Jan. 12, 1705, an appointment of Capt. Humphrey Pudner to command the British warship HMS Reserve. Folds, light soling, else boldly signed and very good. HMS Reserve was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at Deptford Dockyard and launched on Mar. 18, 1704. Reserve was renamed HMS Sutherland in 1716, and converted to serve as a hospital ship in 1741.
