WILLIAM PENN
(1644 - 1718) English Quaker, religious reformer and colonist, a framer of the Pennsylvania Charter of 1677 who received the grant of Pennsylvania from Charles II in 1681. Manuscript D.S. "Wm Penn" 1p. legal folio on vellum, Philadelphia July 29, 1684 a grant of "a certain Tract of Land in ye County of Chester..." of 127 acres" Recipient's name obscured by heavy toning that runs along horizontal fold at right margin, light soiling, else very good condition. Still signature is overall quite clean and distinct.
