"John Hancock" as Governor of Massachusetts, 1p. legal folio, Boston, Dec. 23, 1780, a rare Massachusetts ship's paper issued to William Smith master of the brig Expedition captained by Henry Atkins "...built at Bermuda.. in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy..." A very unusual document, the first we have encountered. Minor chipping to margins with minor losses, usual folds, moderately toned, but otherwise good condition. Offered together with the Aug. 21, 1783 edition of the Independent Chronicle and Universal Advertiser 4pp. folio, the front page bearing a "LIST of the delinquent Towns... which have not procured their quotas of Beef required of them by the Resolves of the General Court..." for use of the Army.
