Description:

(b. 1946) Forty-second President of the United States, the first elected president to be impeached. Good association A.L.S. 'Bill Clinton' on his post-presidential personal letterhead with gold eagle, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], June 24, 1901, to Margo Howard, the daughter of Eppie Lederer (better known as Ann Landers) and niece of Pauline Phillips and cousin of Jeanne Phillips (both better known as Abigail Van Buren, authors of the advice column 'Dear Abby'). A letter of condolence upon the death of 'Ann Landers', in part: '...I wanted to write to say how sorry Hillary and I were to learn of your mother's passing. She brought so much joy into my life. I always loved seeing her and I will miss our visits very much. Like millions of others, I read her columns with great interest - But getting to know her was a far greater prize...' With transmittal envelope with printed frank, fine. Clinton misdated his letter, dating his letter as 2001 versus 2002, the date of Landers' death. Press reports indicate that Clinton asked her if he had been ruined by Monica Lewinsky. She thought Clinton smart and handsome. 'She was a nut for handsome men,' said one friend. Given the booming economy and her support of Clinton's policies, she refused to condemn him for his sexual indiscretions, explaining, 'He's human and he needs help.' What really irked her, she told a friend, was, 'Why would he go with somebody as ugly as Monica Lewinsky?'
