Description:

(1899 – 1967) Canadian World War I flying ace credited with 37 victories. He became the leading ace of RAF 41 Squadron until his capture following a vicious dogfight against 20:1 opposition. Scarce war-date "Combats in the Air" battle report, 1p. 4to., "Albert", Aug. 1, 1918, recording his 30th "kill" flying an S.E. 5a and encountering nine Fokker biplanes and a D.F.W. In part: "...I saw 9 Fokker Biplanes over LAMOTTE at 13,000 ft....E.A. dived on me...They then disappeared...Later at 8-40 pm I saw 1 E.A. 2-seater D.F.W....I dived and E.A. dived also, at 50 yds. range I opened fire...E.A. went into a flat spin and disappeared still going down...out of control..." Also bears a signed holograph addition by Squadron Leader GEOFFREY HILTON "BEERY" BOWMAN , DSO, MC & Bar, DFC (1891–1970), English ace credited with 32 victories. After attaining the rank of major in the Royal Flying Corps, he later became a group captain in the Royal Air Force. He notes that the aircraft was "completely out of control...& should have been seen by ground observers...". Typed text and Claxton's signature are light but legible, else very good.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made.
