(1896 - 1960) DSO, MC, DFC & Bar, MM. British flying ace during World War I who recorded 37 victories in just three months while flying the Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5. After retiring in 1936, Jones was recommissioned after the outbreak of the Second World War, and flew briefly during the Battle of Britain. Rare "Combats in the Air" battle report, 1p. 4to., [France], June 18, 1918. Jones describes air combat north of Bailleul as he flew his S.E. 5 at 8,000 and encountered a German D.F.W. recon aircraft. In part: "...I observed two D.F.W.'s working...and attacked them at 12.30 p.m.. I waited until the E.A.s went under a cloud and then dived and got into position as they appeared again. Aftyer firing a good burst from both guns at the nearest E.A., his right top plane collapsed, and he went down in a spin. I followed him down, firing short bursts...then I observed that his right wing had completely collapsewd...The other E.A. made off East..." Also signed by the commander of 74 Squadron, KEITH LOGAN CALDWELL (1895-1980) CBE, MC, DFC & Bar, a New Zealand fighter ace of the Royal Flying Corps in World War I with 11 kills who also rose to the rank of Air Commodore in the Royal New Zealand Air Force during World War II. File holes at left margin, else fine. This would be Jones' 17th victory.
