Description:

WHITE RIVER EXPEDITION MUSTER ROLL
A good content war-date partly-printed D.S., 2pp. folio, Co. B, 33rd Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Yazoo Pass, Feb. 28, 1863, signed by JOHN G. HUDSON (1832-1908), Union brevet brigadier general who, as a captain, commanded Battery D of the 33rd Missouri Volunteer Infantry during the Battle for Helena, Arkansas on July 4, 1863. Also signed by WILLIAM A. PILE (1829-1889), Union brigadier general. The document goes on to list some of the men who died in hospital and those who deserted. The record of events makes mention of the White River Expedition and the various steamers they embarked on. The White River Expedition of February 20–26, 1864 resulted in Union forces capturing numerous troops from different Confederate infantry and cavalry units. To the dismay of the Union cavalry involved in this expedition, the Confederate troops in the area were able to attack Union forces, liberate some of their own troops, and hastily escape. Some large splits with some tape repairs to the verso, otherwise very good.
