Good lot of two letters, eight signatures, and one signed photograph, all executed by American and British missionaries stationed in China or Japan, includes: CHARLES ALFORD (1816-1898) Second Bishop of Victoria, Hong Kong. A.L.S. "Chas. R. Alford", 1p. 8vo., Malvern, May 9, 1890, Alford answers his correspondent''s request for an autograph. Mounting remnants on the verso, with paper loss to the upper left corner, else very good; ALEXANDER WILLIAMSON (1829-1880) Scottish missionary, one of the first to preach in Korea. A.L.S., 4pp. 8vo., Chefoo, July 18, 1866, congratulating his correspondent on the publication of an essay on a dialect of Chinese, folds, else very good; and FREDERICK GRAVES (1858-1940) Bishop of Shanghai and professor at St. John''s College. S.P. "F. R. Graves 1908", 7" x 9", a frontispiece portrait excised from a book, very good. The signatures present include those of JOHN MCKIM (1852-1936), Bishop of Tokyo; WALTER JUDD (1898-1994) Republican congressman and medical missionary to China; SIDNEY PARTRIDGE (1857-1930), Bishop of Kyoto; DANIEL VROOMAN (1818-1895) Presbyterian missionary and early cartographer of Canton, adding his signature in Chinese and with the signature of his wife, Minnie; WILLIAM BOONE (1811-1865), Bishop of Shanghai; YOUNG JOHN ALLEN (1836-1907), founder of the Anglo-Chinese College at Shanghai, adding his name in Chinese; and BENJAMIN HENRY (1850-1901), Presbyterian missionary and naturalist, all very good.
