801. GIDEON WELLES Partly-printed D.S., 1p. folio, Washington, Oct. 21, 1865, an ornate discharge of Acting Ensign W. I. Crosby from the Navy: "...The war for the preservation of the Union having under the beneficent guidance of Almighty God, been brought to a successful termination..." Boldly signed by Welles, with a photo of the sailor in civilian garb at lower-left. Light vertical toned line at top, tiny hole at one fold, else very good. Simply framed. Crosby served on Farragut's flagship the Hartford during the battle of Mobile Bay. $150-200
