Good pair of Vietnam War-era rifle bayonets, includes: U.S. M5A1 bayonet, 6 ½" blade, 11 ¼" overall as used with the M1 Garand rifle in post-World War II service, including with South Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino units during the Vietnam War. The two-piece grip is of checked black plastic, with a push-button catch release beneath the crossguard. The top of the guard is marked "U.S. M5A1" and "Milpar COI". The blade is completely blackened, as is liberally coated with grease. The bayonet is house in an olive-green fiber M8 scabbard, inscribed "U.S. M8" over "B.M. Co." on the steel throat. The initials "P A L" are lightly scratched over this mark, with the initials "J W M" and the number "20113445" similarly scratched on the reverse. A woven leather lanyard is fitted at the tip. The scabbard shows some wear and oxidation, with some soiling to the webbing straps and verdigris to the brass fittings, else very good. WITH: Russian AKM Type II bayonet, 5 ¾" blade, 10 ¾" overall, with a brown composite handle stamped with the arrow mark of the Izhevsk arsenal beside the numeral "34/1", and with the serial number "591" on the opposite face. A webbing hand strap it affixed between the blackened steel crossguard and pommel and the back of the blade is serrated, with a hole in the blade allowing it to be attached to a stud at the tip of the scabbard, for use as a wire cutter. The scabbard is again constructed of brown composite with blackened steel fittings, again bearing the Izhevsk stamp and the numeral "48", with the serial number "421". A leather belt hanger is clipped to the throat. The blade shows run marks, with wear to the composite fittings, else very good. The AKM was one of a vast variety of weapons utilized by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong during the conflict. Two pieces.
