Description:

(VICTORIA)
(1819 - 1901) Queen of England, reigned during the Crimean and Boer Wars, abolished the East India Company, brought Disraeli to power as Prime Minister, and is considered the symbol of a unified British Empire. A superb partly-printed document [unsigned] measuring 30" x 20", Apr. 3, 1873, a lengthy license granting unto John Pullman and John Richard Edmonds, both of the County of Surrey, enabling them to execute and enjoy the powers, privileges and advantages of said license for improvements in machinery for staking and grinding leather. At the top of the document is a fine engraving of Victoria's coat of arms and, most importantly, at bottom a rare oversized attached hanging wax seal measuring no less than 6 1/4" wide x approx. 1" thick, housed in the original tin box. The seal has a fine impression of the Queen on her throne, and remains quite attractive in spite of a repaired crack at center. The document, along with the specs outlining Pullman and Edmonds' improved machinery, are contained within the original leatherbound box from the Patent Office on Chancery Lane, London. Regrettably, the box is missing one side and shows expected wear; however the document is in near fine condition. A most unusual find, worthy of proper display.
